The dry season is here with slight trade winds from the east. It took a while wet season pushed through into mid April causing showers and storms hanging around longer than usual. A massive high sat west of Perth for a couple of months pushing lows further south making the ground swells a lot further away than usual and disturbing the Rote apple tree or should I say Rote coconut tree. End of April produced some fun waves and epic weather conditions so those who were here enjoying surfing and fishing. Surfing and fishing to an uninhabited island are what dreams are made of. At Lualemba Bungalows we can make them dreams come true.

Surfing Perfection

Take a short 5 kilometre boat ride to Saku Namors and enjoy this beautiful right. Swell, conditions and tides depending but when it’s on it’s on. Apart of the April madness with slight off shore winds turns this place on. This April unfortunately for the first half we experience a lot of dribble wave wise and slight offshore winds making it the worst April in my experience over the last 16 years. However it did improve in the last weeks with some excellent waves and slight offshore winds. It is very much looking consistent now with the slight offshore and from now on Indian Ocean swells are going to be pushing through for the next 6 months.

Lualemba Bungalows are glowing.

We have been established with Lualemba bungalows for over 12 years now and are always upgrading and improving because we enjoy having you guys here and want you to keep coming back. Our funds have been limited from covid but we are keeping Lualemba Bungalows looking great with new paint inside and out and general maintenance throughout, the restaurant is looking fantastic. Our plans once we are back on our feet is to improve Lualemba Bungalows so much more because making you happy makes us happy. Hope to see you guys back and more new faces throughout the year some time.

The thrill of hooking up a big fish.

Whether you go out trolling, casting out behind the breakers or jigging off the bottom. Latching on to a large Trevally or Spanish Mackerel bringing it into the boat and having the girls cooking it back at the restaurant under an open fire is just the best thrill. Living the dream from the ocean. We caught this beautiful Bluefin Trevally in surreal fishing conditions the other day with one of our guests Peter.

The yellow Lualemba surf bus

The yellow surf bus is exclusively for taking Lualemba guests surfing and sometimes fishing. It has just been all repaired and painted to near new condition. Back in 2020 it was completely shell internally and custom refitted solely for its purpose of taking guests surfing and fishing locally. The captain takes surfers to Tland and waits while you surf unless he has to return or pickup other guests from the beach. We at Lualemba try to provide a service that is totally safe and enjoyable for guests.

Travel to Indonesia

It seems travel to Indonesia is getting easier every week it hasn’t returned like it was in 2019 but hopefully it will soon. The latest is a PCR test before you leave indonesia and when you enter Bali or Jakarta they check your temperature, if over 38 you are asked to have a PCR test. Under 38 you process your way through and are free to travel anywhere in Indonesia. There is a health App you will need on your phone don’t stress too much about that as staff at the airport will help you with that. Domestic travel during ramadan and Adu Fitry holiday period that pretty much ends 8 May you will need a PCR test to travel domestic. This was brought in at the start of Ramadan and I don’t see why they will continue with it later. As you come to Kupang Covid regulations are quite relaxed and when in Rote you will probably forget covid exists. We must remind guests though that the reason we are still including 3 meals a day with your accommodation is to reduce unnecessary interacting amongst people you don’t need to. We have a a great smart tv that has all weekly NRL and AFL games available plus other downloadable entertainment. We sell icy cold beers and other drinks so you can take to the beach and chill out to enjoy the sunset plus onsite we have a great pool, table tennis or places to relax around our beautiful gardens. So we are recommending guests to keep a certain amount of isolated common sense to avoid catching and spreading covid to other guests and staff.

Garuda are not presently doing domestic travel throughout Indonesia so the best way to travel to kupang and to Rote in the same day is with Lion Air and then Wings Air to Rote. If you check in with surfboards say in Bali you should be able to have them go straight through to Rote to avoid issues in Kupang as flight staff in Kupang can at times be a pain in the arse. So it is best to try and avoid this. They will charge you pure surfboard per destination it was RP 200,000 per board so it will probably cost RP 400,000 to Rote per board. They will also charge you for check in luggage so have a decent bag for carry on to minimise costs would be wise. You could even try packing your clothing and other flat luggage in your board bag to avoid check in costs. Remember Lion Air are a cheaper flight than most other flights but compensate through extra costs so they all work out around the same price thereabouts.

Don’t be rattled by all this travel nonsense when you arrive at Lualemba Bungalows and settle into Rote lifestyle catching awesome waves and chilling out it will be well worth it.
